{inspiration board} kennedy

I was right... I couldn't resist the double board!  Check out this more "academic take" on a winery wedding inspiration board.  Can you say classy?  I love knowing that often times a place that grows excellent wine grapes is also a place for other produce to flourish, thus the inclusion of sculptural artichokes and soft figs.  The rich colors so entrancing, especially when paired with more natural, neutral textures and patterns.  This board is eye candy for sure, and a special way to celebrate the Central Coast (Paso Robles, specifically) being voted Wine Region of the Year by Wine Enthusiast.

{inspiration board} serena

I'm in love with the softness of this inspiration board.  I've had a few projects lately that were some combination of light pink and dark blue in color palette, but it's amazing how versatile of a pairing those shades can be.  There are so many options within those shades that the designs always feel original.  For this sea inspired palette, we're hoping to head in the ink and shell direction.

I was so inspired for this project, I made a double board.  I doubt this will be the first time I do this - it's so much fun to gather ideas and images!  P.S. How stunning is that redhead and her freckles?

belle {inspiration board}

I'm collaborating on another upcoming shoot that is going to be "sweeter n' sweet tea."  We're hoping to give all the details - both big and small - a touch of Southern charm; think South Carolina Plantation, camellias, all things monogrammed, boiled peanuts and some home-distilled hooch.  WIth all that in mind, these paper goods sure have some big shoes to fill.

Having never been anywhere near the South myself, I might possibly be basing everything I know on Reese Witherspoon in the movie Sweet Home Alabama...

summer {inspiration board}

Here on the Central Coast, there is an abundance grape vines.  There are also plenty of couples who choose to exchange their vows amidst the vines, and I can't blame them one bit.  In fact, I'm working on an inspiration shoot and the stationery is loosely informed by a much toned-down Dionysus-inspired style.  Wine and pleasure have always seemed hand in hand, but at this local venue, there is also plenty of class and elegance to go around.  The main colors for the suite are classic navy and blush, like the hue of a crisp rosé wine.

"bert" inspiration board

I have another fun inspiration board for you today.  This little gem is something I came up with for an upcoming collaboration with Sarah Kathleen Photography and Ever After Artistry & Design.  I don't want to give too much away now (like the main concepts) because I know the final product will blow your mind.  Just take a gander at our inspiration board and let your imagination wander... I know I am!

"first colors" inspiration board

I couldn't resist two posts in one day.  So many fun designs in my sketchbooks as of late.

I am very lucky to be collaborating with the ever-talented Bret Cole again.  I love working with her and the team she pulls together for each workshop.  Did you know there's another one this April?  With a similar aesthetic drive as in the past, we're punching up this stationery suite with a somewhat unexpected color palette.  It's inspired by the first colors of spring: clear blue skies, sprouts of green grass, cheery yellow wildflowers.  The final designs are going to be so fun.

I also really love this painting by Madeline Denaro.  It has so much movement and life without being too heavy.

"wild & flowers" inspiration board

Good news folks!  One of my current clients is a fun, talented, local photographer.  Do you know Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' song called "Wildflowers"?  Well, if you don't, you should definitely have a listen.  There are a few lyrics from that song that pop into my head when I think about the business identity we're trying to create:

You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
You belong with your love on your arm
You belong somewhere you feel free

I really feel like this stanza of the song perfectly captures the essence of her personality, talent and emotion.  She's just a free-stylin', nature-lovin' girly girl who, like all good photographers, loves love.  I can't wait to show you more of what we're cooking up together.

new year's excitement

Olive & Emerald has been a part of me since I illustrated my first bunny on a card for my grandparents as a child; it's so much a part of who I am that I have a hard time keeping track of how long it's officially been a business.  I had to count on my fingers about twenty times to confirm that, yes, January 1st, 2014 is Olive & Emerald's fourth birthday.

"sweet avery" inspiration board

Some folks aren't drawn towards the youthful, pastel-ladel baby announcements that are currently de stijl.  For those folks, I've dreamt up a more sophisticated palette of inspiration: meet Avery.  She's a classicly understated baby who's about to make her debut.  She reminds us that even babies like things to be in black and white.

{published} in defense of paper

I wrote an article.  It got published.  I'm once again feeling impassioned about the importance of social decorum, respect and well designed stationery.  I LOVE MY JOB.

"a little more than neutral" inspiration board

Every now and then (basically every time I start a new project), I get very excited and go on the hunt for inspiration.  I really love that feeling.  And sometimes, I start devising design ideas before I have the chance to chat with my clients in detail...  The good news: it's always a great exercise in making cohesive concepts.

Back in June, I posted the inspiration board called "Neutral Worth Noticing".  It was very elegant and monochromatic, and all based on some hunches I had after reading one client email.  Don't get me wrong - I love the board - it's just not totally the vision of the engaged couple.  I know that because I have since been able to sit down with them and talk vision.

This is the updated inspiration board, post client meeting.  It's still mostly neutral but this time embracing subtle shades of greens, lilacs and pinks.  Even with a few of the same images, the board has a new feeling of soft, graceful femininity.

"mysterious moth" inspiration board

Many times, when I'm working with a client, I try to come up with one sentence that encompasses the essence of the project.  For this one, the phrase is "clear mind, strong heart and a risk-taker at all the right moments."  I'm collaborating with a long-time friend on a very personal project, this inspiration board has me totally jazzed to keep dreaming up ideas.

{sneak peek} marian suite styled wedding shoot

Delinquency, yes.  Beautiful things as result, also yes.  This is a sneak peek at the recent shoot I did with Sarah Kathleen Photography and Jamie with Ever After Artistry as the stylist.  It was so beautiful.

Also, how cute is this couple.  They feel so real I kind of think we're friends already.

"neutral worth noticing" inspiration board

Images via Pinterest

It's no secret - I love working with engaged couples.  I've been gathering inspiration for an upcoming project with an engaged couple that are embracing subtle tones with a big impact.  Right now my vision for this board is something that is undoubtedly classic, but with lots of layers, texture, and personal touches.

P.S. that Lazaro dress kills me.
