behind the name

On a quick break at the office and I wanted to explain where the name Olive & Emerald came from. I realize that a business name is more than just something you put on letterhead; it's a peak into the attitude and culture of the business itself. I wanted to have something classic, something fun and something personal - that's when Olive & Emerald was born.

The name is many things. It's a play on the longtime tradition of using founder names as the business name. In this case, however, there is no Mr. Olive or Ms. Emerald. It's in reference to all those successful businesses named after items (Apple anyone?). It's also about me. I am a May-baby and emerald is my birthstone. The real birth of the name came from the moment when I was flipping through an old sketchbook and saw that I had written "emerald" in a font that looked like a cut gem. It was stunning, a little bit art deco and just what I was looking for.

  1. what about the olive part?? maybe I missed it. You should upload your journal page with your emerald sketch, I'm sure it was stunning. Loving reading this already!
