{familiar face} shawna lauringson and whitney hoffman

This summer has been a whirlwind.  Seriously, where did the last three months go?  In the hopes of a mellowing schedule and fun fall traditions, I'm making an effort to get the blog back into the swing of things.  What's that?  You love Familiar Faces?  Good, me too.  Say hello to Shawn and Whitney of Gold Spark Paperie, a couple of super-fun stationery ladies also based here on the Central Coast.

(from Shawna)
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Gregarious, generous and very, very blessed.

How has design influenced the way you work?
I'm not a designer by trade, and therefore I don't think that there are hard and fast rules to design.  That being said, I agree that "good design goes to heaven, and bad design goes EVERYWHERE else.  I guess I'm not much for fads.

What is the paper good you can't live without, practical or otherwise?
I have this beautiful journal my sister gave me for Christmas about seven years ago.  It was so beautiful I was afraid to write in it, so instead I turned it into a way to compile beautiful images.  It's basically my personal Pinterest, before it existed.  I still love nothing more than tearing out pictures from magazines and pasting them in there.

(from Whitney)
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Visual, overly-optimistic, and a tiny bit cheeky.

How has design influenced the way you work?
The great thing about design, good or bad, is that it teaches you something.  That's how it influences my work:  good design sticks, and well, bad design... I hope it doesn't stick!

What is the paper good you can't live without, practical or otherwise?
My leuchtturrim planner 'cause I'm old school and write everything down.  It's my life.  If something isn't in there, it doesn't exist!

Thanks to these awesome ladies for sharing a little bit about themselves.  They are so much fun to work with and hang out with.
